RBI Grade B – Reserve Bank of India Grade B Officer Exam


Every year Reserve Bank of India (RBI) conducts the RBI Grade B Officer Exam to select eligible candidates for the position of Grade B officer in its various branches all across the country. As Reserve Bank of India offers an excellent pay scale and reputed job profile, it lures thousands of candidates every year to take this examination. With a handful of vacancy to be filled through RBI Grade B Exam, it is really important to prepare effectively for this exam. Selection for RBI Grade B Officers will be done through a country-wide competitive Examination .
RBI Grade B Examination 2019 is tentatively scheduled for the month of June 2019. RBI Grade B 2019 Application Form will be available in the month of May, 2019.

RBI Grade B Exam will be conducted in both online and offline mode. The recruitment drive is split into three phases:

I. Nationality: To appear for RBI Grade B Examination 2019, a candidate must be either: —
a) a citizen of India, or
b) a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or
c) a Tibetan refugee who is permanently settled in India prior to January 1, 1962, or
d) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from either Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, or Vietnam with the intention of residing permanently in India.
Please note that candidates belonging to categories (b), (c), and (d) should possess a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.
II. Age:
1. The minimum age limit for candidates to apply is 21 years while the upper age limit is 30 years.For candidates with M.Phil. and Ph.D. qualifications,the upper age limit will be 32 and 34 years respectively.
2. Candidates falling under reserved category are eligible for relaxation in upper age limit as per Government of India norms.

III. Educational Qualifications: The educational qualifications as prescribed by the Board for the RBI Grade B Examination
1.Officers in Grade ‘B’ (DR) – (General) – At least 60% marks in aggregate for all semester/years (50% for SC/ST/PWD) or an equivalent grade in Bachelor’s degree as well as in 12th (or Diploma or equivalent) and 10th Standard examinations from recognized University and Boards respectively.
2.Officers in Grade ‘B’ (DR) – DEPR – A Master’s Degree in Economics / Econometrics / Quantitative Economics / Mathematical Economics / Integrated Economics Course/ Finance, with a minimum of 55% marks or an equivalent grade. SC/ST/PWD candidates are allowed a relaxation of 5%
3.Officers in Grade ‘B’ (DR) – DSIM – Essential: A Master’s Degree in Statistics/Mathematical Economics/ Mathematical Statistics/Statistics & Informatics/Econometrics from IIT-Kharagpur or Applied Statistics & Informatics from IIT-Bombay with at least 55% marks in aggregate of all semester/years or an equivalent grade; OR
Master’s Degree in Mathematics with at least 55% marks in aggregate of all semester/years and 1-year PG Diploma in Statistics or related subjects from reputed institute; OR
M. Stat. from Indian Statistical Institute with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate of all semesters/years OR
PG Diploma in Business Analytics (PGDBA) jointly offered by ISI Kolkata, IIT Kharagpur and IIM Calcutta with at least 55% marks in aggregate of all semesters/years or equivalent grade.
Note:For SC/ST/PWD candidates, the minimum marks required in Master’s Degree as in items a, b, c and d above is 50% in aggregate of all semesters/years or an equivalent grade.

Exam Centers

For RBI Grade B Examination,candidates can choose one center for Phase-I and one center for Phase–II separately in the online application form
Allotment of RBI Grade B Examination Exam Centers will be on the “first-apply-first-allot” manner based on availability.
Online Examination Centers for RBI Grade B Examination Phase – I and Phase – II will be conducted in approximately 158 and 20 locations respectively, across the country.

Exam Dates

The official notification for RBI Grade B 2019 Examination is expected to release in the 1st week of May 2019. Meanwhile, candidates can have a look at the tentative schedule based on the dates from previous year exam schedule.

Exam Pattern

RBI Grade B Exam Pattern is decided by exam authority of Reserve Bank of India. Applicants are advised to go through the exam pattern carefully before preparing for the examination.
RBI Grade B Exam comprises two phases i.e. Phase I and Phase II. Candidates clearing both the phases are called for final selection round i.e. an interview. RBI Grade B exam pattern outlines details such as the number of questions, mode of examination, total marks, number of section and marking scheme etc.
In Phase I, the questions are set from four subject areas namely General Awareness, English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, and Reasoning.
In Phase II questions will be asked from different subjects – Economic and Social Issues, English Language, Finance and Management/ Economics/ Statistics.
In Phase III, Candidates qualifying Phase I and Phase II will have to face interview round carrying 50 marks.
Final Merit List will be formulated based on the marks of Phase II exam and interview.
Duration will vary for both the exams. Negative marking is applicable for both the papers.

The exam pattern for RBI Grade B Phase I consists of 200 multiple choice questions:
1.The questions shall be objective in nature
2.Total time duration to complete the exam is 2 hours
3.Sections included here are General Awareness, English Language, Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning
4.The exam will be held online for 200 marks
5.Students who scored minimum marks for each test as prescribed by the bank will only be shortlisted for Phase II examination based on the aggregate marks obtained in Phase I.

RBI Grade B Exam Pattern (Phase II)
The Phase II of RBI Grade B exam also consists of three papers with a duration 1 hour 30 minutes each.
Only successful candidates from Phase I will appear for Phase II examination.
1.In Phase II there will be three papers i.e. Economic and Social Sciences, English, and Finance & Management
2.The Phase II exam will be comprised of objective and subjective questions
3.Except English, all question papers will be set bilingually in Hindi and English
4.To complete the exam, students will be given 1 hour and 30 minutes (for each paper).

Marking Scheme
1. For every correct answer, students will be awarded 1 mark
2. 0.25 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer
3. For any Un-attempted questions, no marks will be awarded or deducted.
RBI Grade B Interview (Phase-III)
Candidates will be shortlisted for the interview round based on the the phase II aggregate score of Paper I, Paper II and Paper III. The minimum cutoff to be eligible for the interview round will be decided by the conducting authority.
1.RBI Interview round is the third and final phase in RBI Grade B Selection Process.
2.Interview round carries 50 marks. Final merit list will be formulated after the conclusion of the RBI interview round.
3.Candidates can choose either Hindi or English language for the interview round.
4.Selected candidates Roll number will be uploaded on the official website.
5.Invitation Letter will be sent on the email ID of the selected candidates.

Application Form

RBI Grade B Examination can be fill through online mode only on the official website. Candidates willing to apply for posts in both Gr. B (DR)-General and Gr B (DR) DEPR / DSIM need to apply separately for each position along with requisite application fees
Steps involved in the online Application Process:
1. Visit the official website www.rbi.org.in and click on the link “Recruitment for the post of Officers in Gr. B (DR) General/DEPR/DSIM”
2. Separate links for Online applications for Gr B -(DR)-General and Online applications for DEPR/DSIM would be displayed.

3. For fresh registration, choose the tab “Click here for New Registration” and enter Name, Contact details, and Email-id.
4. A Provisional Registration Number and Password will be generated by the system.
5. An Email & SMS is sent to registered email ID and a Mobile number containing Registration number and Password.
6. Fill the remaining details in the application form.
7. Upload scanned images of candidates’ recent photograph and signature, left hand thumb impression and a hand written declaration with following specifications:

8. Next, the application fee has to be deposited using Debit/Credit Cards, Internet Banking, Cash Cards/Mobile Wallets.
9. Candidates must obtain and preserve the ‘e-receipt’ as proof of successful fee payment.
10. Finally, choose “SAVE AND NEXT” and verify the details in the form before submission.
Application Fee for RBI Grade B Examination 2019 has to be paid in online mode only. Fee payable for various categories is indicated in the table below:

1. Candidates must obtain the print-out of duly filled RBI Grade B Exam Application Form for future correspondence.
2. No separate facility to make changes in the form will be available after submission of form.
3. Fee once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances.
4. Fee/Intimation charges waiver is applicable only for the RBI Staff who meet specific eligibility criteria stipulated in the circular CO. HRMD. No. G-75/ 5599/ 05.01.01/ 2013-2014 dated December 20, 2013

Admit Card

1. Successful applicants for RBI Grade B Examination 2019 are issued an e-Admission Letter two week prior to exam date.
2. Candidates can download the admit card from the official website of bank.
3. Candidates should check the e- Admission Letter carefully and bring discrepancies/errors, if any, to the notice of Board immediately.
4. Supporting Documents to be furnished along with Admission Letter:
In addition to the Admission Letter, candidates need to present a valid Photo ID proof issued by the GOI or the State Government (original as well as a photocopy) for verification.
Acceptable photo ID proofs are : PAN Card/ Passport/ Driving Licence/ Voter’s Card/ Bank Passbook with photograph etc.
