IBPS PO – Institute of Banking Personnel Selection Probationary Officer Exam
Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS), as part of the Common Recruitment Process (CRP), conducts online exams for selection of candidates for the post of Probationary Officer (PO)/ Management Trainee (MT) in participating banks/organisations.
The online exams of IBPS PO are conducted in two phases – Preliminary and Main. All candidates who clear Preliminary and Main online tests have to appear for the Common Interview round. All candidates clearing the interview round are finally shortlisted for PO/MT posts. Depending on the vacancies to be filled and business needs of the banks shortlisted candidates are posted at any one of the participating banks.

The eligibility criteria for IBPS is:
In order to fulfill IBPS PO eligibility criteria candidates should meet the parameters given below:
• Nationality/ Citizenship: Any candidate who is a citizen of India or subject of Nepal/ Bhutan is eligible to appear for IBPS CWE PO exam. Also, candidates who are Tibetan Refugees and came to India before January 1, 1962, fulfill IBPS PO eligibility criteria. Apart from this, people of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan/ Burma/ Sri Lanka/ Kenya/ Uganda/ the United Republic of Tanzania/ Zambia/ Malawi/ Zaire/ Ethiopia/ Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling down in India are also eligible to apply for the exam.
• Age: Candidates must be minimum 20 years and maximum 30 years in age as on July 1, in order to meet IBPS PO exam eligibility criteria. This means that a candidate must have been born not earlier than July 2, 1989 and not later than July 1, 1999, informs the official website.
It may be noted that an age relaxation of five, three and ten years is given to SC/ ST, OBC (non-creamy layer), and PwD candidates, respectively.
• Educational Qualification: All candidates must possess a graduation degree or an equivalent qualification in any stream from a recognised university to meet IBPS CWE PO 2019 exam eligibility criteria. It may be noted that the final result of candidates’ graduation should be declared on or before September 4,2019. The official website informs, “Proper document from board/ university for having declared the result on or before September 4,2019 has to be submitted at the time of interview.”
IBPS PO comprises of following steps:
Step 1: Fill IBPS PO Application form
For IBPS PO registrations, candidates can fill as well as submit the application form in the online mode on the official website of IBPS. After the form is successfully submitted, candidates need to pay IBPS PO application fee in the online mode via debit/ credit card/ internet banking.

Step 2: Download IBPS PO Admit Card
Candidates can download their IBPS PO admit card (also known as call letter) from the official website of the exam. The admit card would contain all relevant details regarding the exam and test centre.
Next, candidates need to appear for IBPS PO Preliminary exam. IBPS PO Preliminary exam is an objective test conducted in online mode in order to shortlist candidates for the next stage of IBPS CRP-PO/MT.
Step 4: Download IBPS PO Admit Card.All candidates qualifying the Preliminary exam then need to download their call letter from the official website of the bank and appear for the Main exam.
Step 5: Appear for IBPS PO Main Exam IBPS PO Main exam is an online test that contains both objective and subjective questions. Maximum marks that candidates can score in the exam are 225. All candidates clearing Main exam then can appear for final stage of IBPS CRP-PO/MT – Common Interview.
Step 6: Download IBPS PO Admit Card All candidates qualifying for common interview round need to again download their admit card from the official website of IBPS.
Step 7: Appear for IBPS PO Common Interview Round.The final round of recruitment process – Common Interview carries 100 marks weightage. Candidates need to score minimum 40% marks (35% for reserved category candidates) in order to clear the interview round.
Step 8: Check Final IBPS PO Result/ Cutoff.On the basis of candidates’ performance in Main exam and interview round, a cutoff list is prepared by IBPS. Shortlisted candidates are recruited at different participating banks on the basis of cutoff. Candidates can check cutoff/ result on the official website of IBPS.

IBPS PO exam is a two-tier selection process – CWE and Common Interview round. CWE is a common written exam conducted in the online mode and in two phases – Preliminary and Main.
IBPS PO Preliminary Exam Pattern
Note: “Candidates have to qualify in each of the three tests by securing cut-off marks to be decided by IBPS.”
Marking scheme: One mark will be awarded for each correct answer. There will negative marking of 0.25 marks for each incorrect answer.
IBPS PO Main Exam Pattern
IBPS PO pattern for Main exam is such that there will be a total of 155 multiple choice questions and 2 subjective questions that candidates need to complete in a total duration of 3 hours and 30 minutes.
Marking scheme: There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks in the objective part of the paper. There will be no negative marking for subjective questions in the test.
IBPS PO Common Interview Round
In order to clear Common Interview Round candidates need to score minimum 40% (35% for SC/ST/OBC/PWD candidates) marks. Maximum marks that candidates can secure in the interview round are 100.
Final selection of candidates will be done on the basis their marks obtained in Main exam and Common Interview round. It may be noted that is mandatory for candidates to pass in both – online Main exam as well as interview. Also, the official website informs, “a candidate should be sufficiently high in the merit to be shortlisted for subsequent provisional allotment process.”

Candidates can fill IBPS PO application form in online mode as per the steps mentioned below:
Step 1: Register on IBPS Website
Firstly, candidates need to visit the official website of IBPS and click on the link, Click Here to Apply Online for Common Recruitment Process for Probationary Officers/ Management Trainees. On clicking the link, a new page will open. Candidates need to click on the Click Here for New Registration link and enter basic details such as name, mobile number, and email ID.
On successful registration, a provisional registration number and password will be displayed on the screen. Candidates need to note the registration number and password for future reference.
Next, candidates need to login their accounts (using registration number and password) and fill the form. Some of the details to be filled in the application form are:
• Personal details such as name, gender, date of birth, mobile number, and email ID
• Qualification details such as name of the institution last attended, marks secured in the exam, year of passing, etc
• Preference for exam cities
Other than filling aforementioned details candidates also need to upload their scanned photograph, signature, left thumb impression and hand-written declaration image as per the prescribed specifications:
• Size of scanned photo: 20kb – 50 kb
• Size of scanned signature, left thumb impression and hand-written declaration image: 10kb – 20kb
Once all details are filled, candidates can click on the Final Submit button to submit the form.
Step 3: Pay IBPS PO Application Fee(Mention Above)
Lastly, candidates need to pay IBPS PO application fee in online mode via credit card/ debit card/ internet banking/ IMPS, Cash Cards/ Mobile Wallets. Candidates can pay the fee by providing the information asked on the screen.
Once fee is successfully paid, candidates’ application process will be complete. Candidates are advised to take a printout of the system generated filled-in application form and retain for their own record.
Note: The official website states, “An online application which is incomplete in any respect such as without proper passport size photograph and signature uploaded in the online application form/ unsuccessful fee payment will not be considered as valid.”
IBPS PO exam admit cards are released after each phase of exam. Candidates can download IBPS PO admit card/ call letter for all stages of the exam (Preliminary, Main & Interview) from the official website of the institute. Steps to download IBPS PO call letter are as mentioned below:
Step 1: Visit the official website of IBPS.
Step 2: Click on the Download Call Letter link.
Step 3: Enter registration number and password/ date of birth in the space provided.
Step 4: Click on the Submit button.

Any candidate failing to produce their call letter and/ photo ID proof will not be allowed to take the exam. Regarding the same, the official website states, “The candidate’s identity will be verified with respect to his/her details on the call letter, in the attendance list and requisite documents submitted.”
Note: No hard copy of the admit card will be sent to candidates by post/ courier, informs the official website.
